St Johnland Assisted Living

Kings Park, NY

St. Johnland has been providing specialized care on eastern Long Island since 1870. They engaged KDA Architects to design a new building, which added assisted living services to a campus that already provides traumatic brain injury care, memory care, subacute care and short term rehab.

The building plan is designed to create four neighborhoods of 25 residents. The building’s common areas are located at the center of the building. On the main entry floor, there is a large lobby with an adjoining library space. A main dining room and informal café are located just beyond the lobby. Each dining area will have natural light and views of outdoor courtyards, which can be accessed directly from the dining rooms for outdoor dining or recreation.

The second floor amenities include a large activity room equipped for art and cultural activities, a physical therapy, fitness area, and a wellness suite. The building design reflects the Shingle Style architectural character that is a traditional vernacular style of Long Island.
