Wartburg - Berkemeier Assisted Living

Wartburg commissioned KDA Architects to develop a plan that includes the demolition of an existing building (Berkemeier Auditorium) and the construction of a new 5-story structure of approximately 50,500 square feet. The contemporary design respects the unique character of the site, campus architecture and neighboring buildings. Additionally, consideration for sustainability, large windows, enhanced views, and the beneficial effects of natural light propelled the design process to ensure a rich, healing living environment.

The facility will have 48 memory care units at approximately 418 square feet per unit, located on the four upper levels, totaling 12 units per floor. Each floor will feature larger community spaces for dining and gathering. The lower floor common area will be approximately 10,500 square feet and include the main lobby, gallery, offices, flex meeting space and support services. A secure memory garden will front on the campus open space that is the heart of the community.
