Heath Village Dining Renovations
Hackettstown, New Jersey-Heath Village is one of the oldest retirement communities in New Jersey with buildings dating from the 1960′s through the 1990′s. Over the past 20 years KDA has been working with Heath Village to keep their facilities current and relevant through an annual master plan assessment and resultant upgrades and improvements. The most recent renovation project is a complete makeover of the dining venue portion of the community center and associated outdoor living area.
The existing dining room and lobby waiting area were inward looking with no views of the mountainous setting, daylighting was poor, and the outdoor living area was confined to a small enclosed courtyard that was usable only by a few, and only on nice days.
Our design goals were to increase opportunities for socializing, provide a choice of dining options, let in more daylight, open up the views of the mountain, and create all-season outdoor living spaces.
The design was realized by removing two small residential buildings to open the view and allow for the outdoor living features, converting one residential unit to a game room, renovating the dining rooms to create separate venues including display cooking and a pub, and expanding the dining lobby to a pre-function lounge. The outdoor living area includes porches with ceiling fans and radiant heaters, a pond, fire pits and an activity lawn.
The completed project now provides an active, visually rich and comfortable focus for the community.
