John Brooks Recovery Center - Mays Landing Residential Treatment Campus

Hamilton Twp, NJ

The John Brooks Recovery Center engaged KDA Architects to plan and design a campus that provides counseling, meals, nursing care and physical activities for men and women. Each of the four non-medical housing wings has its own community spaces for each household of 24 residents. An 18-bed medical detox wing includes a nursing station and housing units identical to the non-medical housing.

The building plan is organized around a secure garden courtyard that is the hub of the campus and provides the therapeutic benefits of the exposure to nature and a place to socialize. The four residential wings are located away from the parking areas for privacy and quiet.

The central building includes private counseling offices as well as group therapy rooms, class rooms and conference rooms. Every one of these rooms has exposure to daylight and the daylit communicating corridors leading to the dining room ring the courtyard.
