University City High School Cafeteria
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Due to the success of the redesign of the South Philadelphia High School Cafeteria, the Philadelphia school district decided to continue the program of rebuilding their cafeteria and food service programs. Following this renovation, the student’s participation in the food program has increased from 450 lunches to 1200 lunches and the reimbursement ratio for this increase will more than pay for the overall improvements.
The geometry of the renovated cafeteria was established by the entrance from the main hallway, creating two main entrances to the cafeteria. The position of the existing kitchen and the formation of the new serving lines created a circular pattern for movement and seating areas. The triangular seating spaces adjacent to the main area open into two existing courtyards. The cafeteria was opened in 1998.
