The Judith B. Flicker Center
Voorhees, New Jersey - The Flicker Center is a community residence for developmentally and physically disabled adults. It is located on a 6.8 acre site overlooking a small lake. The specialized programming and design of this clustered group home incorporates trend-setting design for senior living facilities. The living units and common areas were designed to afford the residents a gracious, secure, communal lifestyle while being ADA accessible and sensitive to the medical needs of the residents.
The Center is comprised of six connected group homes and an attached community center. Each six-unit group home is designed to resemble and function as a family unit. Each of the six residents in each home has a private living unit with bath, and share a common kitchen, living/dining room , den, and laundry room, resident storage room, private patio and supervising staff member. The six wings are joined by an enclosed common corridor that creates the perimeter of a central activity garden courtyard. Each resident unit is approximately 330 square feet and contains a sleeping area and an accessible bathroom. The attached community facility (17,000 square feet) supports the daily life of the residents and staff, and provides a place for gathering and socializing. Within the community facility there is a multi-use room, indoor pool and physical therapy area, recreation areas and living room, greenhouse and an administrative suite.
