Galloway Township, New Jersey - Completed during the spring of 2001, The Seashore Gardens Living Center is situated on 12.5 acres in Galloway Township just outside of Atlantic City, New Jersey. The original campus consisted of a 151-bed skilled nursing facility, and a 35-bed assisted living facility. The initial development also planned space for an independent living building, which is now the home of Seashore Housing. As with all our senior living projects, we emphasized the use natural light and connections to the outdoors. All common spaces are located adjacent to a courtyard or garden. Our key design objective was to create an atmosphere reminiscent of the residents’ former homes without the visual reminders of a nursing facility. In order to achieve this, all support spaces for the use and storage of medical materials, dietary services, and equipment are hidden from resident view.
The campus shares common community space and administration functions. The buildings are connected by walking, sitting and garden areas. KDA Architects was responsible for all aspects of the Master Plan, the landscape architecture, the architectural design, and the facilities programming, as well as construction administration. KDA also provided services assisting the owner in acquiring the Certificate of Need from the state and coordinated all of the consultants associated with the campus’s construction.
