Pine Hill Middle School
Pine Hill, New Jersey - The Pine Hill Middle School is located adjacent to Overbrook Senior High School. This new structure occupies the southwest corner of the existing high school site. The proximity of the two schools allows them to share an auditorium, their athletic fields, parking and other functions. These shared items provide usage flexibility and reduced the school district’s construction costs and future maintenance commitments.
The building is designed internally to support a technology-driven curriculum and contain a backbone media-distribution system. A separate media equipment central control room monitors and supports the networking of voice, video and data to each room. The gymnasium is located to allow easy after-hour use without imposing on the remainder of the school. A service court behind the gymnasium provides delivery access and mechanical areas without impacting activities in the front of the building. A main street corridor connects all major core facility spaces to the classroom wings. The school is designed for full accessibility; an elevator adjacent to the main administrative offices connects the second floor academic rooms to the main level. Opened in 2001, the middle school was the product of Pine Hill’s growing population, especially within grades K – 5, and the de-regionalization of the Lower Camden County Regional School District. As a result of the de-regionalization, Pine Hill became a receiving district, giving the school board the impetuous to develop the new middle school.
