Voorhees, New Jersey - Lions Gate, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in the Jewish tradition, is located in Voorhees Township, New Jersey. This long awaited facility was the culmination of the Jewish Federation of Camden County’s mission for the care of seniors. With a history of operating congregate care facilities throughout the region, the completion of Lions Gate marked their first full-service continuing care campus.
The CCRC is located within a residential neighborhood adjacent to a thriving commercial district containing restaurants, shops, and a multiplex movie theater. The site, a former 50-acre executive golf course, offered an ideal setting. Our design allowed us to retain many mature specimen trees from the former golf course, creating an instantly mature feel for the campus. The master plan clusters a 35,000 sqft community center, 152 apartments, and 12 cottages around a system of outdoor courtyards. Each structure, with its own distinct character inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement of the 1890′s, is unified by scale, materials, simple detailing, and an informal free-flowing layout reminiscent of that era.
Built on a budget of $55 million, Lion’s Gate offers residents independent living units from 650 sqft one-bedroom apartments to 1700 sqft two-bedroom / den apartments and cottages up to 1700 sqft. Healthcare services include adult daycare, 40 assisted living beds, and 78 skilled nursing beds, including a dementia unit.
