Tokyo, Japan – After an international search for a senior living design consultant, the Japanese developer, ZECS Co. of Tokyo, Japan, selected KDA Architects for the design of a new retirement community. KDA consulted with a local Japanese architect, Kura, in the development of a new ten-story facility in the Shirogane section of Tokyo.
KDA was responsible for all common spaces, including the entry foyer and public corridors to the main dining rooms. High-end finishes such as mosaic marble floors are found throughout. Classical elements like columns and vaulted rotunda ceilings took their cues from New York’s vintage Madison Avenue apartment buildings and five-star hotels. The elements not only accentuate these spaces, they function as wayfinding devices for the residents.
